R&B veteran Ginuwine is gearing up to release the music video for his first single “What Could Have Been” on November 8th. The track is off Ginuwine’s forthcoming album, Elgin, which hits stores just before Valentine’s Day. In the video for “What Could Have Been,” Ginuwine, who is separated from his love interest Phoenix played by Malinda Williams (Soul Food, Daddy’s Little Girls), races to the alter to stop his ex from marrying another man. Here is the synopsis of the video: In the opening scene, we see Ginuwine inside his home, pacing about while getting dressed. As the second verse begins, Ginuwine cruises through the city streets in route to the small church where Phoenix’s wedding is taking place. During Ginuwine’s driving sequence there is a montage of shots to establish Phoenix’s wedding ceremony. Her father escorting her to the altar, the flower girls dropping a path of roses, the groom and his groomsmen looking back at Phoenix strolling down the aisle and finally, her father pulling back Phoenix’s veil and handing her over to her fiancé. Ginuwine finally reaches the front entrance to the church and explodes through the door interrupting Phoenix’s “I do.” We see different shots of folks looking back towards Ginuwine as he makes his way down the aisle as Phoenix is stunned and confused. After a powerful performance down the aisle, Ginuwine drops to his knees and extends his hand out to Phoenix. Immediately two of her uncles and a younger cousin grab Ginuwine and pull him back down the aisle towards the exit. Phoenix is emotionally touched because deep down inside she knows Ginuwine is the man she is meant to be with, but remains in awe. Ultimately, she drops her bouquet, looks at her father, then looks at her mother and finally to her fiancé. In her final moment, she looks back at Ginuwine. Suddenly Phoenix drops her fiancés hand and runs towards Ginuwine and they reunite. Click here to see more photos.

Plot Summary

Ginuwine is about to crash the altar in his upcoming music video for “What Could Have Been.” The classic R&B singer takes a journey through heartbreak and sorrow as he reflects on what could have been.

The video opens with Ginuwine walking up an aisle, surrounded by people who are dressed in all-white attire. As he reaches the front of the church, it becomes clear that this isn’t a wedding but instead a funeral service. He’s mourning something special – lost love. Tears stream down Ginuwine’s face as he stands at the altar looking out over friends and family gathered around him in support.

As the song progresses, Ginuwine’s sadness turns into anger and rage. In one powerful scene, he flips over chairs and knocks over tables as his emotions take over. It’s a raw expression of pain that only someone who has loved deeply can understand, reminding viewers of those moments when all you want to do is scream or break something to get rid of your feelings. In the end though, Ginuwine finds himself back at the altar alone and contemplative – realizing there will always be ‘what could have been.’

Behind the scenes of Ginuwine’s ‘What Could Have Been’ is a talented cast and crew who helped bring his vision to life. At the helm was director, Alex Medina; an award-winning filmmaker whose passion for telling stories that move people has been seen in multiple projects across music video and film. He worked with cinematographer, Juan Pablo Pino, to capture the emotion and feelings expressed throughout the video – making sure each scene hit exactly right.
