CONFIRMED: Mariah Carey and Nick Cannon To Welcome First Child

After months of speculation, Mariah Carey and Nick Cannon have announced that they are expecting their first child together. “Yes, we are pregnant. This is true,” confirmed Mimi this morning on the “Today” show, an advance look at a three-part “Access Hollywood” interview. “It’s been a long journey, but it’s been tough because I’ve been trying to have…. to hold onto a shred of privacy. And that was not easy,” she continued. The couple stayed mum on the exact date they’re expecting, but Mariah revealed that it will be some time in the spring. “It’s still early, I’m expecting in the spring, I’ll say that. I don’t want to give too much of like, specific outlines,” she said. “The greatest gift on Earth is a child,” chimed Cannon, who sat in on the interview and referred to the pregnancy as “absolutely emotional” news. “I mean obviously the greatest gift on Earth is a child,” he continued. “But … you know how much we have been through, you know.” This is the second time that Mimi and Nick have conceived a child, having previously kept a pregnancy and miscarriage secret from the world. “It was really sad so we had to just, we had really to absorb this and take it in,” Carey said of her misfortune two years ago. Cannon added, “And that’s what I said, like her strength would literally be during the day so festive and smiling obviously for cameras and spending time with everyone and you know, literally that night crying herself to sleep.” Indeed, the public and media have been obsessed with the diva’s reproductive status for years, but with publicity for a Christmas album on the way as well as an expanding middle, she decided it was time to go public. Mariah will also give birth to another baby, her second Christmas album Merry Christmas II You, next week. The full three-part interview will air on “Access Hollywood” Thursday through Saturday.
