John Legend and The Roots are set for a live Vevo/Youtube webcast of their upcoming concert directed by Oscar winning filmmaker Spike Lee. Speaking about the concert, 53-year-old Lee told the Associated Press, “It’s not necessarily a Spike Lee joint. It’s a John Legend and the Roots joint”, before adding, “I like doing stuff live. We can’t stop this concert. Going to have to go with the flow.” The event, which will broadcast on Thursday September 23rd in New York, is the second part of the American Express sponsored ‘Unstaged’ series of gigs. Singers Jennifer Hudson, Melanie Fiona, Estelle and rapper Common will also join Legend and The Roots in the live gig, reports JustJared.com. The Grammy Award winning John Legend recently teamed up with The Roots to record the collaborative album entitled ‘Wake Up’, which is in stores today (Sept. 21). The project is largely a set of cover songs focused on the message music of the 1960s and 1970s by songwriters like Marvin Gaye and others, but there is one original composition called âShineâ that was written by Legend himself. CL Smooth, Malik Yusef, Common, and Melanie Fiona also make an appearance on the album.
