A new chapter in R&B songstress Syleena Johnson’s trilogy will be coming our way soon. Dubbed ‘Chapter 5: Underrated,’ the new disc is her follow up to 2009’s ‘Chapter 4: Labor Pains.’ On ‘Chapter 5: Underrated,’ Syleena, who will boast a new sound and look, after cutting her hair (not pictured), says there is no holding back on this project. So why the “Underrated” title for Chapter 5? “This is what the fans named me based on what the industry has rated me,” Syleena tells Singersroom exclusively. As far as the workings of ‘Underrated,’ Syleena seems to be very excited about her new material “Fantastic! Sounds are new! I can finally be myself and say what I want to whatever kind of music I want,” she tells Singersroom. “With the new producers I am working with under Toxic Productions (Monica, Keyshia Cole, Twista). I feel lucky every time they make something for me.” Syleena is currently securing distribution for the project.

In addition, she is also a talented poet, actress and motivational speaker who strives to inspire others through her creative works.

In this insightful interview, prepare yourself to hear all about The Floacist’s journey thus far – from her humble beginnings in London right through to where she stands today as one of R&B/Hip Hop’s greatest talents. Get ready for an intimate chat featuring thought provoking questions which will surely leave you feeling inspired by The Floacist herself!

Background And Career Highlights

She is an award-winning poet, a singer, songwriter and author. She has been making music for over 20 years and her work spans genres from soul to hip hop. Her name is The Floacist and she brings together the power of words with captivating melodies to create something truly unique.

The Floacist was born in London but moved to Atlanta when she was 9. After high school, she chose not to pursue college due to wanting more time and freedom to explore her musical talents. In the late 90s and early 2000s, she started performing spoken word poetry at various venues including open mics around Atlanta and New York City. Eventually this led her to become part of the internationally known collective ‘Floetry’, which released two albums that went gold and platinum respectively in the US.

Since then, The Floacist’s career has seen many highs; she’s made appearances on TV shows like ‘Def Poetry Jam’ as well as winning awards such as BET Hip Hop Awards Best Female Lyricist (2006) & NAACP Image Award Outstanding Music Video (2008). Today The Floacist continues to write, record and perform new music while also working on book projects and public speaking engagements across the world.

Reflection On Artistic Expression

The Floacist is passionate about artistic expression and the power of words to move people. She believes that art should be an avenue for self-expression, creativity, exploration, and healing. For The Floacist, her music allows her to explore different aspects of herself in a safe space.

When asked why she continues to create art despite all the challenges life throws at us all, The Floacist refers back to her roots: “I am rooted in faith; I believe if you do something with passion and purpose it will come through no matter what… I want my music to remind [people] that they are never alone”. To this end, she wants her work to help listeners reflect on their own lives while also providing comfort and assurance that they can make it through any tough times ahead.

In addition to creating art as a form of personal therapy and connection, The Floacist also uses her platform as a way to empower others – especially women – by sharing stories from her journey and helping them tap into their dreams and potentials. Through it all, The Floacist stands strong in her commitment to staying true to herself and giving voice to those who need one most.

Conclusion

I’ve been a fan of the Floacist for many years, and I was excited to have the opportunity to speak with her about life and music. After talking with her, I am even more inspired by her body of work. Her passion for creating art that speaks truth and offers meaningful messages is clear.

Her journey has taught me that staying true to yourself through your artistic expression can lead you down an incredibly rewarding path. She encourages us all to be engaged in our individual creative processes so we may use them as vehicles for positive change in our lives, communities, and world.

The Floacist reminds us that everyone has something unique to contribute, whether it’s through spoken word or another form of creativity. It is evident from speaking with her that she puts love into everything she makes – not only because it sounds good but because she hopes it will positively affect those who hear it. That alone is inspiring!
