Queen of Soul, Aretha Franklin, reportedly wants Academy Award winning actress Halle Berry to play her because she thinks Berry would be a “good choice” for a movie based on her autobiography, “From These Roots.” So far Franklin reportedly spoke with Denzel Washington, who she thinks would be the best choice for her father. She described him as being interested in the role. Veteran actress Nia Long is Franklin’s choice for her sister, Erma Franklin, best known for the song “Piece of My Heart” and Terrence Howard, who physically resembles Smokey Robinson, would play the R&B singer. The project is still a long way from becoming reality as representatives for Franklin is currently reviewing different scripts. In Addition, the film does not have financing.

Aretha Franklin is making a bold move in her career and it involves one of Hollywood’s biggest names. The Queen of Soul has revealed that she wants Halle Berry to portray her in an upcoming biopic about her life. This could be the start of something big, as Aretha believes Halle embodies all the qualities needed for this role. From their mutual admiration to what they can bring to the table, let’s take a closer look at why Aretha Franklin chose Halle Berry for her biopic.

The music industry icon and award-winning actress have been fans of each other’s work for decades now and continue to express admiration towards one another whenever possible. In 2017, Aretha told Entertainment Tonight how much she enjoyed watching Halle onscreen saying “I love Halle Berry’s movies… She plays interesting characters, quite different from one another.” Meanwhile, just recently in 2020, Berry posted a tribute to Aretha on Instagram writing “#RIPARETHAFRANKLIN – A QUEEN OF ALL GENRES, CLASSICAL MUSICIAN & VOCALIST WHOSE BODY OF WORK WILL CONTINUE TO INSPIRE FOR YEARS TO COME.”

It’s clear these two powerful women share respect and appreciation for each other which makes them perfect collaborators for such an important project. On top of having similar values and beliefs, both are also proven professionals when it comes to their respective industries—and together they may create a masterpiece with this biopic honoring Aretha’s legacy. So let us dive into more detail about why Aretha Franklin chose Halle Berry for her biopic.

Aretha Franklin’s Legacy

Aretha Franklin is an icon in the world of music and entertainment. Throughout her lifetime, she made a lasting impact on generations with her soulful voice and timeless songs. Her legacy lives on even after her passing; many are still inspired by her immense talent and contribution to music.

Franklin’s life story has been brought up lately as talks about creating a biopic have come into discussion. Actress Halle Berry has recently expressed interest in playing the role of Aretha Franklin if such a movie was ever produced. This news has sparked more attention for Franklin’s remarkable career and all that she achieved during her time on Earth.

The admiration for Aretha can be seen today through tributes from other artists, awards ceremonies honoring her accomplishments, album re-releases showcasing her classic hits, newspaper articles discussing her influence, and so much more. Without any doubt, fans worldwide will continue to hold onto the memory of this extraordinary woman for years to come.

Casting For The Biopic

With the potential for a biopic in the works, audiences are eager to see who will be casted as Aretha Franklin. Recently, Oscar-winning actress Halle Berry has expressed interest in taking on this role – an opportunity that she is excited to explore further.

Berry’s enthusiasm and admiration for Aretha comes through clearly with her statement: “I am humbled by the opportunity to portray an extraordinary woman whose impactful story needs to be told. She broke barriers and I hope to do justice by bringing her legacy and all of its depth, complexity and music to life.” This sentiment resonates deeply with fans worldwide as they can only imagine what it would look like if Berry took up this challenge.

Although casting decisions have yet to be made official, many already view Berry as Aretha reborn due their similar physical features such as skin tone and facial structure. With these similarities plus Berry’s acting chops combined with her reverence of Franklin, she could easily bring out the emotion and energy behind the legendary legend’s life story on screen. It remains uncertain who will take up such a big responsibility but one thing is certain – no matter who takes on this job, they will have high expectations from fans everywhere.

Conclusion

I’m sure Aretha Franklin would be happy with Halle Berry playing her role in the biopic. She was a phenomenal woman and an influential artist, who has left a lasting legacy on music and culture. Despite all that she achieved, there is still so much more to learn about her life story, and it’s exciting to think of what this movie can bring to light.

Halle Berry certainly seems like the perfect fit for portraying Aretha Franklin – her acting talent combined with her obvious admiration for the singer makes me confident that she will do justice to the part. Her enthusiasm for the role is inspiring; I hope this project will kickstart a long-term collaboration between these two strong female figures.

Aretha Franklin’s star power lives on through her songs, but having a movie made about her life only adds another layer to her already impressive legacy. With any luck we’ll get to see Halle Berry shine as Aretha soon!
