What happened?
One of the summer’s most anticipated films, ‘Sex and the City 2,’ has failed at the box office ! Once thought to be a sure hit, with predictions as high as $75 million opening weekend, ‘Sex and The City 2’ raked in a measly $37.1 million, coming in at no.3 at the domestic box office Monday.
“It’s possible,” Moviefone’s Gary Susman wrote over the weekend, “that the film was hurt by poor reviews, its R-rating, and its 2 1/2-hour running time or its inability to attract male moviegoers, but none of these proved obstacles for the first movie. Maybe it’s just that real-life women the ages of Carrie or Samantha were busy taking their kids to see ‘Shrek.'”
‘Sex and The City 2’ was defeated by Shrek Forever After pulling in 57.1 million and Prince of Persia, raking in $37.8 million.
