The alleged stalker who has been accused of sending tons of lewd text messages and x-rated pictures to R&B singer Ashanti’s mother testified during an anticipated hearing last week — his defense … “she never told me to stop”. As previously reported, Devar Hurd is on trial for reportedly sending text messages to Ashanti’s mother/manager Tina Douglas on numerous occasions, at one point sending a photograph of his genitals. Taking the stand Friday, Hurd told officials “That’s sex texting for the ladies… she welcomed it”. According to NY Daily News, Hurd, claiming to be a music company executive, a singer, car salesman, model and a real estate investor, assured the court that many of his “lady friends’ welcomed his advances. While much of Hurd’s testimony was related to his “lady friends,” sources say things became disturbing when Hurd told officials just how he received Tina Douglas’ number and what made him pursue the R&B songstress. Refrencing a performance from the singer at a nightclub he attended in 2003, Hurd told the court that he felt a connection with Ashanti. “We had strong eye contact, and I’m like, ‘Oh, I need to get in contact with her,” Hurd then pursued getting her number through Ashanti’s record label, Murder Inc. Eventually a member of the team gave up Tina Douglas’ number.
