Michael Jackson’s ‘This Is It’ has exceeded expectations atop this week’s box office bringing in $101 million worldwide ! Opening with $20.1 million in ticket sales early in the week, ‘This Is It’ continued to fill theaters throughout the week, showing no signs of slowing down for Halloween. According to sales figures released Sunday, ‘This Is It’ grossed $32.5 million in the United States and $68.5 million overseas in five days. Japanese fans, packing theaters throughout the country, topped Great Britain ($7.6 million) and Germany ($6.3 million) with a total of $10.4 million in ticket sales. “He’s just loved everywhere on the planet,” Rory Bruer, head of distribution for Sony said in a statement. “It doesn’t matter if it’s Asia, Africa, Australia, Europe, South America. Every continent in the world loved him and his music.” As a result of the success SONY will extend the ‘This Is It’ run in theaters beyond its initial two-week limited engagement through late November.
