Whitney Houston is not the only one thrilled with the debut of “I Look To You,” which arrives at no.1 on Billboard’s 200 Albums chart today. Longtime mentor and industry exec Clive Davis is calling this week’s debut “surprising”. “It’s surprising in view of the fact that she’s had such incredible selling albums, but this is the biggest opening week Whitney’s ever had,” Davis tells ET. Shattering negative reports, Houston’s first album in several years debuts at no.1 with over 300,000 copies sold (Updated Total: 305,000 copies), reports HitsDailyDouble. Nonetheless, Clive Davis says it’s all in response to the music. “The kind of mail that we’re getting all over the world in response to this album not only shows that Whitney’s still got it, but ⦠shows that she has newfound maturity and emotional power.” “I Look To You” is in stores and at digital retail now.
