Joe: The Rise of Cobra beat out its closest competition, ‘Julie & Julia,’ starring Meryl Streep, by over $30 million. ($20.1 million) While G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra opened well, both stateside and overseas, sources say it came quite close to beating the record opening of ‘The Bourne Ultimatum’ in 2007. Debuting with $69.3 million in 2007, The Bourne Ultimatum still retains the record for the best August opening ever. Sources say ‘G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra’ comes in at no.4. Taking its domestic total into account, G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra pulled in at total of 100.3 million worldwide.
