Five time Barbados Music Award nominated singer Jaicko is close to unveiling his brand of caribbean infused R&B/Pop sound thanks to Capitol Records. Once pitted against fellow island native Rihanna, Jaicko is the latest artist to sign a deal with Capitol Records, where he joins J. Holiday. His as-yet-untitled debut, due later this year, is lead by the single “Oh Yeah” and features a who’s who among today’s producing and songwriting hitmakers. Amongst those contributing to Jaicko’s debut are Jim Jonsin (Lil Wayne), Robert Allen (Chris Brown, Rihanna), The Stereotypes (Danity Kane) and Stargate (Ne-Yo, Beyonce). Speaking of his newfound deal with Capitol and fellow Barbadian artist Rihanna, Jaicko says “We were always seen as apart from the rest of the world.” “It almost seemed impossible for a Barbadian artist to get a record deal. I was pursuing this before Rihanna, but seeing her success made me believe more I could do it, it removed whatever doubt was there.” Deemed to have the discipline of Stevie Wonder, Jaicko is intent on infusing his music with sophistication and sentiment. “This is something that I have been trying to do for years, to break out internationally. I built a fanbase back in Barbados so it’s a good feeling to take to the States and the rest of the world now.” Soon, the rest of the world will know that very good feeling, too.”
