Michael Jackson’s 1993 single “Will You Be There” has become the “Greatest Gainer’ on Billboard’s Digital Songs tally. Reported Friday, “Will You Be There” leaped forty-nine spots to land at no.10 on the chart where it is joined by “Thriller” (no.9), “Billie Jean” (no.8), and “Man In The Mirror” (no.3). Upon release in the early 90s, “Will You Be There” received a boost from the blockbuster film “Free Willy”. The film, also featuring SWV on its soundtrack, centered around an orphan and troubled teen that ends up bonding with an orphaned Killer Whale who refuses to perform in captivity. Since the release of the film, a number of sequels have been produced including 1997s Free Willy 3: The Rescue. Prior to this week, “Will You Be There” held the no.59 position on Billboard’s Hot Digital Songs chart that is tabulated with both airplay and sales in mind. As previously reported on Singersroom, Michael Jackson has sold over 9 million albums worldwide since his untimely death in June.
