American Idol winner/recording star Fantasia is set to reunite with her mother for a special “mother & daughter” performance over the weekend. Sharing the same stage as Grammy winning Gospel recording artists Kirk Franklin and Donnie McClurkin, Barrino and her mother Diane will perform at the 25th Annual Chicago Gospel Music Festival. Barrino, whose life before singles like “Free Yourself” and “When I See You” was chronicled with her mom in Lifetime’s “Life Is Not A Fairytale: The Fantasia Barrino Story,” will take the stage Sunday, June 7 to perform a roughly hour long set. Speaking of her mother in recent years, Fantasia said “She and I have been through so many of the same things in life”. In fact a song on Fantasia’s 2006 album, titled “I Feel Beautiful” is dedicated to her mother Diane. “The lyrics on that song are very emotional for me and when I recorded it, I just broke down in the end. It’s my song for my Mom,” Fantasia confirms. In related news, Fantasia is approaching an anticipated return to theater with the June 30 premiere of ‘The Color Purple’. As previously reported, Fantasia will reprise her role as Celie between June 30 and mid-August. For more on Fantasia’s performance with her mother Diane Barrino, visit Sights & Soul HERE.
