The new Star Trek movie topped this weekend’s box office with just over $72 million in North American ticket sales. The flick, which replaces last week’s top box office entry “X-Men Origins: Wolverine,” starring Zoe Saldana and Tyler Perry moved a total of $72.5 million after snatching up $4 million during a special preview Thursday. According to insiders, the new Star Trek surpassed the opening grosses posted by any of the previous 10 “Star Trek” films. In related box office news, Benny Boom’s ‘Next Day Air’ starring Wood Harris, Donald Faison and Lauren London, opened at no.6 with $ 4 million. Obsessed (6.6 million), 17 Again (4.4 million), and Ghosts of Girlfriends Past (10.5 million) round out this week’s top 10 movies at the North American Box Office.
