R&B singer John Legend has added more arena shows to his summertime run behind his latest effort, “Evolver.” The 17-city run, backed by 11-piece band, now begins June 27 in Muskegon, MI, before heading to New Orleans for a July 3 headlining gig at the Essence Music Festival. From there, the Grammy winner will work his way from east to west, stopping by amphitheaters nationwide through the final stop Sept. 1 in Los Angeles. Details are included below. Legend will team up with non-profit environmental organization REVERB to go “green” on the tour. Their efforts will include coordination with venues and local caterers to ensure and facilitate the use of green products and practices, along with neutralizing CO2 emissions from venue energy use, hotels, flights and touring vehicles. The tour’s “carbon footprint” was calculated by REVERB and neutralized by financially supporting the construction of new renewable energy projects such as wind farms. Eco-friendly merchandise will be available for fans and a John Legend on-line ride-sharing service will encourage and assist carpooling to shows. Legends âEvolver,â released last fall, debuted in the Top 5 on The Billboard 200, as well as the No. 1 spot on the Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums chart. The record’s first single, “Green Light,” features special guest Andre 3000 on the album, though Legend performed the track at this year’s Super Bowl XLIII alongside T-Pain. Other guest vocalists that contributed to the singer’s latest release include fellow chart-toppers Brandy, Estelle and Kanye West, who also helped on the production side as well. Legend, who recently wrapped up tours in Europe and Asia, made a surprise appearance last Saturday at Indio, CA’s Coachella Festival. MSTRKRFT performed their remix of the singer’s single, “Green Light,” with Legend stepping out before the crowd to contribute vocals. In February, Legend took home his sixth career Grammy for his performance with Al Green on “Stay With Me (By the Sea),” which won in the Best R&B Performance by a Duo or Group With Vocals category.
