The patriarch of the iconic vocal Winans family has passed according to family members. David “Pop” Winans, father of Gospel sensations BeBe, CeCe and eight other children who have been major forces in the recording industry, died Wednesday. He was 76. Winans, a recording artist in his own right (“Uncensored,” “Mom & Pop Winans”) was Grammy nominated and led his children including the group “The Winans” (Michael, Marvin, Carvin and Ronald) through recording success. Also noted for appearing with his wife regularly at Benny Hinn crusades and the Trinity Broadcasting Network’s noted program “Praise The Lord” (TBN), Winans passed after suffering a heart attack and stroke last October. “The Winans family wishes to thank everyone for their prayers and continued support, but would appreciate privacy at this time,” a statement from the family read late Wednesday. Memorial services are planned for next Tuesday and Wednesday at Perfecting Church in Detroit where Marvin Winans is senior pastor.
