2008 featured some of the most hilarious, shocking, jaw-dropping, and even sheer reckless moments so why not take a look back. In fact we’ve got 20 memorable moments for you. With just ten days to go until history takes a turn in 2009, we’ll take you through Reckless Souls, a countdown featuring everyone from Dru Hill to R. Kelly and everything in between. After being cleared of all charges in June, R. Kelly locked in his first and only post-trial sit down with BET’s Toure for the special “R. Kelly Speaks” in September. Millions tuned in to watch the R&B singer/producer speak on the biggest and most-talked-about trial in 2008 but for R. Kelly it marked the end of an era… or so he thought. Stepping on hot coals, R. Kelly set television screens, chat rooms, blogs, radio personalities, social groups, churches and nearly everyone on fire when he asked BET personalilty Toure to define how old a teenage girl is !!!….. I repeat, how old is a teenage girl ? Despite the fact that his very freedom was being protested, R. Kelly seemed completely calm, if not arrogant throughout the interview. Aside from the “I thank my fans” and the occasional “I thank God” here and there Kelly stood his ground delighting some, irritating others. (Video Below) Getting back to his ‘Teenage Girls’ question, which even caused Toure to pause for a moment like “are you serious dude ?,” R. Kelly said “I have 19 year old friends but I don’t like anyone underage if that’s what you mean.” Relive the moment, courtesy of YouTube: As for where he stands now, R.Kelly says: “I’m not going to let this affect my gift.” “I’ve done vintage R. Kelly songs during the trial because I said no matter what, I’m not going to let this make me run under a rock and not do my job. Some people fall off and I chose not to do that.” Other people in and outside of the industry, most notably radio personality Funkmaster Flex and comedian Lil Duval, took issue with R.Kelly’s freedom and his near arrogant speech on BET but at the end of the day, like it or not, R. Kelly was acquitted of all charges.
