There’s no denying that 2011 was filled with reports of music artists making their way into jail. This was no exception to R&B singer Teairra Mari, who faced multiple charges after being arrested back in August for driving while under the influence, which resulted in her tapping the rear-end of the car in front of her. On top of that, reports claimed that the singer was belligerent and “attacked” the arresting officer as well.
Mari ended up posting the $50,000 bond and releasing a statement, apologizing for her behavior but denying the allegations of her attacking the officer. She also insisted that she hopes her mistake can serve as a lesson learned for someone else.
“Let me start by saying that this is a very embarrassing moment for me, I know that I’ve disappointed so many people including myself,” Mari said in her statement. “I take full responsibility for my actions, but I absolutely did NOT ‘attack’ a Beverly Hills police officer and I’m very confused by those allegations.”
She added: “I did have drinks and I misjudged the situation by driving myself home. I want to apologize to those that I endangered that night and also to the people that I’ve let down. I hope that this situation can save someone from making the dumb decision to drink and drive!”
Remember: Never drink and drive.
