Previously revealed as 106 & Gospel, BET has outfited its brand new Gospel music countdown with a new name and a new co-host, the latter of the two none other than Trin-i-tee 5:7 singer Angel Taylor ! Taylor will join Jorel Quinn of breakout gospel group 21:03 for BET’s revamped 106 & Park spin off ‘GENERATION GOSPEL’. Generation Gospel, now confirmed as a weekly countdown, will premiere Sunday, Jan. 11 on BET. As 106 & Park does, the countdown will feature the hottest music videos in addition to a live studio audience, celebrity guests & interviews, interactive choir battles, and much more. “Black entertainment in effect started with Gospel music and Gospel will always be in its fiber,” said Stephen G. Hill, President of Programming, BET Networks. “What’s exciting is how the youth have taken the hottest rhythms and beats, mixed it with classic gospel sound and put their own stamp on the music and spirit. Generation Gospel will give the viewers contemporary gospel sights and sounds like no other show on television — get ready!” Launching with a fiery episode, BET has secured 2008s BET Best New Artist winner Marvin Sapp (“Never Would Have Made It”) and Kierra Sheard (Bold Right Life) to open the show with rousing performances. Sheard will also join Tye Tribett and Jermaine Sellers (Sunday Best) for GENERATION Gospel’s lifestyle segments throughout the season. Sellers, a finalist on ‘BET Sunday Best,’ will hit the streets to get your point of view on hot topics from New Year’s resolutions to Barack Obama taking office.
