Hollywood: HBO’s The Wire Leads TCA Nominations

The final season of HBO’s acclaimed series “The Wire” is going out with a bang this week leading the nominations at the Television Critics Association Awards. Overall HBO earned 10 nominations including Achievement in Drama, Top Drama and Program of the Year for “The Wire.” According to Variety, the network is also up for the Heritage Award – given specifically to a long-running program with a track record of high achievement and a lasting cultural or social impact. In addition, “Wire” executive producer David Simon was nominated for individual achievement in drama. The TCA Awards, to be voted upon by more than 200 television critics and journalists, will be held July 19th at the Beverly Hilton where ABC’s “Lost” will compete with “The Wire” for program of the year.
