The final season of HBOâs acclaimed series âThe Wireâ is going out with a bang this week leading the nominations at the Television Critics Association Awards. Overall HBO earned 10 nominations including Achievement in Drama, Top Drama and Program of the Year for âThe Wire.â According to Variety, the network is also up for the Heritage Award – given specifically to a long-running program with a track record of high achievement and a lasting cultural or social impact. In addition, âWireâ executive producer David Simon was nominated for individual achievement in drama. The TCA Awards, to be voted upon by more than 200 television critics and journalists, will be held July 19th at the Beverly Hilton where ABCâs âLostâ will compete with âThe Wireâ for program of the year.
