Naturi Naughton is all grown up, the 24 year old singer/actress and former member of the platinum selling group 3LW is set to make waves over the next year with a debut album and leading role in the upcoming “Notorious” biopic. After a highly publicized break up with 3LW in 2002, Naughton virtually disappeared from the scene while the remaining 3LW members went on to pursue other projects including the highly successful Disney phenomenon “The Cheetah Girls.” Now “Bigger, Better, and Stronger” Naughton is back; the 24 year old singer and broadway sensation (“Hairspray”) has landed a role in the highly anticipated Notorious B.I.G. flick “Notorious” currently in production. Joining Derek Luke (Sean Combs), Angela Bassett (Voletta Wallace), Marc John Jeffries (Lil Cease), Antonique Smith (Faith Evans), Anthony Mackie (Tupac Shakur) and new comer Jamal “Gravy” Woolard (Notorious B.I.G) Naughton will portray the “Queen B” herself – Lil Kim. Despite her early years in 3LW, being portrayed as a young innocent girl, Naughton was not afraid to take the challenge of playing Lil’ Kim’s role. “A lot of people don’t expect me to be able to fill these shoes and play the role that’s so different than what they’ve seen, because people know me,” the singer recently told MTV News on the set of “Notorious.” “ They think, ‘Oh, she’s sweet. She’s little. She’s a little girl from 3LW.’ I’m a grown woman now, OK? Things have changed. It’s a little challenging, but I’m willing to take this challenge and prove everybody wrong. All the naysayers, all the haters, I’m going to show them what I’m made of.” Naughton also has plans to make a return to R&B later this year, currently in the studio with Full Force who had worked with singer while in 3LW, she has tentatively titled her upcoming release “Bigger, Better, and Stronger.” Although a release date has not been set for the project the singer/actress has released a few tracks on her myspace including “Stand Up,” “Your Girlfriend” and a collaboration with Lil Kim entitled “Real Chicks.” “Notorious” is slated to hit theaters in January 2009.
