Idol Singer Takes Center Stage, Sy Smith Releases New Album ‘Conflict’

Renowned singer/songwriter Sy Smith may be known for singing back up on the nations most watched reality competition, American Idol, but the soul singer who has penned hits for Macy Gray and Carlos Santana stands strong and ready to face the world on her own terms with her latest effort entitled “Conflict.” Standing front and center of her own musical movement, Smith’s third effort finds the singer declaring the need for music without the corporate machines that control what gets heard and often what doesn’t. She says “I just put together a project that feels right to me and I hope that other people will dig it.” Enlisting producers Ant Bell (Jill Scott), Ty Macklin (Erykah Badu), Steve Catanzaro and Dre King, Smith recaptures her spot in underground soul or to some indie-soul with “Conflict.” Her 2005 critically acclaimed debut “The Syberspace Social,” which landed on the Boston Globe’s top ten CD’s of 2005 and in Billboard Magazine established Smith as an artist on the rise. And rise she does on “Conflict,” a soulful, inspiring and relatable sonic trip where she sings “Conflict, opposites. Psychological politics. Trying to make us all forget, trying to live without regrets…” Smith’s undeniable talent shines throughout the album, tracks like “B-Side Love Affair,” “Fly Away With Me” and “Spies” are ready made soul classics that take you on a metaphoric journey through some of life’s most complex and complicated relationships. “This time I’m embracing my conflicts with the hopes that people will receive and in turn share their own with me”– Smith says of “Conflict.” Smith will join jazz trumpeter Chris Botti on a string of dates this summer including a May 28th show at Skinny’s Lounge in Los Angeles. In July 2008, Smith will return to New York where she will do a weekly residency on Tuesday nights at NYC’s Village Underground. Sy Smith’s “Conflict” is available in stores and online retailers everywhere. – Listen to “Fly Away With Me” Feat. Kay of the Foundation
