Update: Corinne Bailey Rae’s Husband ‘Overdosed’

The husband of R&B/soul singer Corinne Bailey Rae died from a suspected overdose, according to a preliminary coroner report. The body of saxophonist Jason Rae, 31, was found in a flat in the Hyde Park area of the city on Saturday, Deputy Assistant Coroner Roger Chapman said a pathologist’s report pointed to a “suspected drugs overdose.” The examination was postponed to a later date so further investigations and more tests could take place. Mr Rae’s body was released and a burial order made. A 32-year-old man arrested on suspicion of supplying controlled drugs has been bailed pending further inquiries. A dectective said in a short hearing at Leeds (UK) Coroner’s Court there were no signs of trauma or violence or any significant natural disease signs. Leeds-born singer Corinne Bailey Rae met her husband while working at a jazz club in the city and they married in 2001. She is said to be devastated by her husband’s death. Her record label, EMI released a statement saying: “EMI Records would like to offer its sincere condolences to Corinne Bailey Rae and the Rae family at this tragic time.” Messages of support have been appearing on Corinne Bailey Rae’s website following the news, while fans of Mr Rae left tributes on his band’s Facebook website. His band, The Haggis Horns, have played as a backing band for Amy Winehouse, Mark Ronson and Bailey Rae herself.
