Randy Hubbard Parker, 23, the son of hip-hop icon KRS-One (Lawrence Krisna Parker) and his wife, Simone G. Parker, has died of an apparent suicide reports Vibe.com. Parker, who had long suffered from “severe depression,” was discovered in his Atlanta apartment over the weekend. Parker was born July 18, 1983, in Queens, NY. He had moved to the Atlanta area to seek work as a graphic designer and a fashion entrepreneur. A private memorial will be held for Parker on July 18, what would have been his 24th birthday, with a New York memorial service to follow. According to a statement, “KRS-One and Simone Parker send their sincere appreciation to everyone who has already responded to the tragic news.” Condolences and prayers may be sent to Shane Lynch at firstname.lastname@example.org KRS-One is a hip hop MC of Jamaican and Nigerian descent from South Bronx. Over his career he has been known by several pseudonyms, including “Kris Parker,” “The Blastmaster,” and “The Teacha.” KRS-One is a significant figure in the hip hop community, and is often credited by critics and other hip hop artists as epitomizing the “essence” of an MC and for being one of the greatest rappers to hold the mic.
