What’s ‘Hot’ Right Now: Five Key Pieces for Fall

Granted, we’re already more than four weeks into the Fall season, but I couldn’t help myself. Fall is like my favorite season. Not just because I love to see the leaves fall to the ground, but because I live for the chance to rock a pair of fly boots, a mock black turtleneck and a pair of super sexy jeans.

Don’t get it twisted. I hate to see the temperatures drop just as much as the next person, but I have to admit, I live for getting dressed during the colder months. Pulling out my cords, my tweeds and my leathers is like pure bliss for a chick like me.

In my quest for picking out some of the hottest pieces for Fall, I talked with Kevin Matthews, a fashion stylist in Columbus, Ohio. Kevin assured me that I was right on time when it came to my list of five of the top trends for Fall. Are you ready? Grab your pad and take notes!

Skinny Pants

If there is one style staple to have in your closet this season, it’s a pair of skinny pants. The look is so hot right now that you can’t even browse through the mall without running into someone with a pair on. Everyone from Beyonce to Lindsay Lohan have been spotted wearing the super fitted pants. And, don’t think that the look is just reserved for those with a smaller frame. As long as you search for cuts that show off your body, those on the curvier side can work the look just as well. Skinny pants by House of Dereon and JLO by Jennifer Lopez are top choices for those who have a bit of a backside. For those on the smaller side, BCBG, True Religion, 7 for All Mankind Jeans and 575 Denim offer a number of choices.

Dresses are back and they’re back with more sass than ever. Whether it’s a sexy black dress you crave or a backless number for that all-important night, dresses are all the rage. Pairing a dress with a pair of leopard print platforms or layering it over a pair of your favorite jeans will instantly up your style quotient. Some of the hot trends for fall are ones in full plaid as was found on the Fall 2006 Baby Phat runway or the classic 1980’s sweater dress paired with a pair of suede ankle boots and a belt slung low on the hip.

Who would have thought that plaid could be so hot? This funky pattern is making its way around fashion circles and can be found on everything from purses, to hats, to blouses. In order to pull the look off, be sure to not over do it. Just a hint of plaid here and a touch of plaid there will update almost any fall wardrobe look.

Prints are popping up everywhere and Leopard spots seem to be “the” print of choice. Paired with a classic black pencil skirt or a pair of dark-rinse denim jeans, the look can easily transform the wardrobe of any “it” girl. Bebe, Arden B and Nine West all feature some serious animal pieces for Fall.

Keep cozy this fall with a pair of leggings. Pair them with a micro mini or with a long sweater and you have instantly upped your glam factor. The craze for leggings started last season and has quickly picked up speed. Just remember that wearing the look correctly is key. Be sure that you are using leggings as a layering piece and not as the focal point of your outfit.

So, there you have it. The top five fashion finds for Fall. If you can’t do them all, be sure to at least try a pair of skinny jeans and a funky pair of leopard print flats for fall. If you happen to have some extra cash, why not try them all.
