Alicia Keys’ ‘Unplugged’ Tops Billboard 200 Album Chart

Alicia Keys’ ‘Unplugged’ album has taken the top spot in the latest Billboard 200 album chart with sales of 196,000 copies during its first week in stores. The album was recorded in July at the Brooklyn Academy of Music, and gives the nine-time Grammy-winning R&B songstress her third number one debut in three tries. Alicia’s Unplugged is also the second highest debut from the Unplugged series since Nirvana’s 1994 release of MTV Unplugged. Additionally, Alicia Keys’ Unplugged is #1 on the R&B Album chart. Taped July 14th at the Brooklyn Academy of Music, the memorable acoustic performance features a full set of Alicia’s most acclaimed music, along with several new songs. Clive Davis, Chairman/CEO, BMG U.S. says, “Unplugged debuting at number one is yet another amazing milestone achievement for Alicia. That makes it three in a row — three out of three. You just can’t beat that! What makes it extra special is the live format of Unplugged for the true musician — the public really has to be passionate about the artist and the music to buy the album in these numbers.” Christina Norman, President, MTV says, “We are so fortunate to have partnered with Alicia Keys on this amazingly successful album. She truly shares our vision of reaching music fans on multiple touch points.”
