After a slew of collaborations, singles, and two EPs, R&b artist Trevor Jackson announces today that his debut album, Rough Drafts Pt. 1, will arrive on March 23rd via Born Art/EMPIRE. The long-awaited LP has been a long time coming for Jackson, who signed his first major record deal in 2012.
‘Rough Drafts Pt. 1’ is herald by the lead single ‘Apocalypse,’ an intoxicating offering that sees Trevor being more spontaneous with his musical choice and vocal delivery.
“The track is about that feeling of being confused about yourself or parts of your relationship,” says Jackson. “However, the one thing you do know for sure is that you need that person. Even if it was the end of the world you’d want them next to you.”
The song is supported by a gloomy, apocalyptic-styled self-directed visual, which sees Trevor trying to save his loves while battling against those causing destruction. He describes the visual as a representation of being unafraid to go places where others are scared to go for love.
Jackson penned the ‘Rough Drafts Pt. 1’ project in its entirety and added to the production by playing guitar on various tracks. Recorded completely in the singer’s living room, Jackson entitled the LP Rough Drafts Pt. 1 because he was inspired by the idea of being a work in progress and that as humans we are all aspiring to become the best or final version of ourselves.
He will support the pending project by joining Roc Nation songstress Justine Skye on her 10-city “ULTRAVIOLET” headlining tour.
You can also catch Jackson as a co-star in the critically lauded sitcom Grown-ish. In addition, he will star as “Youngblood Priest” in Sony’s upcoming Superfly remake, which is being produced by Joel Silver & rap superstar Future as well as feature direction by Director X.
