Musiq Soulchild and Marsha Ambrosius gave us an appetizer with “Feel The Real,” the title track from his 2017 Grammy-nominated album.
Now, the two join forces for the soulful duet, “For Better, For Worse,” a song about the ups and downs of relationships and the hurt that comes with the struggle. Backed by a minimal, snap-driven production, the two trade lines by giving “his and hers” point of views, keeping the focus on vocals and lyrics.
Speak your mind / Don’t assume that I can read your mind,” Musiq opens on the song. “We both said that we would leave behind / What’s in the past to give us peace of mind / Well here’s a piece of mine.”
“I hate the way you leave the toilet seat up, you so selfish,” Marsha follows, to Musiq’s defense, “I’m used to being solo, all alone, so I can’t help it.”
If you’ve ever been in a relationship, the title of the song says it all. The single gives forever vibes of how relationships, particularly marriages are to play out, for better or for worse. The single is bound to have fans picking up their phones calling that significant other and exchanging similar words.
Early this year, Musiq and Marsha performed a “His & Hers” showcase at SOB’s in New York City. The artists have also recently worked together in the theatrical realm both cast in “Love Jones: The Musical” so it comes to no surprise that they have collaborated once again to bring a new age anthem of staying together.
