With only a day to go before he releases his debut EP, Songs For You, NBA basketball star Victor Oladipo drops another gem called “Unfollow,” featuring fellow R&B artist Eric Bellinger.
On the slow-burning, social media-imagined ballad, The Indiana Pacers guard employs skillful wordplay, lush melodies, and a smooth delivery to captivate our ears.
“Find somebody else who would deal with the bullsh*t you on / You better find another guy you can lie to just like you lied to the one that put you on,” he sings. “It’s some straight up nonsense / I should have never left a comment.”
Grammy-nominated singer-songwriter Eric Bellinger ads a sensual and robust spice to Oladipo’s tale of toxic relationships, infidelity, mistrust, and inappropriate DMs.
“I don’t want to see your face on my timeline no more / You deserve an unfollow,” Bellinger sings. “I don’t want my ex on my explore page.”
Oladipo’s 7-song debut offering, Songs For You, arrives on Friday, October 6, and features the 2 Chainz-assisted “Rope A Dope” and the Donny Hathaway re-interpretation “Song For You.”
Born and raised just outside of Washington, DC in Maryland to immigrant parents, Victor Oladipo would sing in church at 7 or 8 years of age at the request of his mother. A blossoming basketball player, Oladipo’s love of singing was overshadowed by his visibly growing talent. After leading DeMatha High School to a Washington Catholic League Conference victory in his senior year, Oladipo attended Indiana University, where he had yet another fruitful career, eventually becoming Big Ten Defensive Player of the Year. Finally, Oladipo decided to forego his senior season at Indiana and was second overall by the Orlando Magic in the 2013 NBA Draft. Following the circulation of this TMZ video of Oladipo performing R. Kelly’s “I Believe I Can Fly,” the basketball star is making moves to catch the attention of fans everywhere with more than just his stellar skills in the paint.
