According to The Associated Press (AP) and a search warrant that was revealed Tuesday (May 10), a Minnesota doctor saw Prince on two occasions in the month before his death and prescribed him medication. However, the warrant didn’t specify what medications were prescribed or whether Prince took them.
Investigators returned to Prince’s Paisley Park home yesterday to look into whether Prince died from an overdose and whether a doctor was prescribing him drugs in the weeks before his death.
They discovered that Dr. Michael Todd Schulenberg treated Prince on April 7th and April 20th, and he prescribed the musician medications, according to the warrant.
Investigators interviewed Schulenberg and searched the clinic where he once worked. According to Lesa Bader, a spokeswoman for North Memorial Medical Center, Schulenberg no longer works for the health care system and declined to say why. She said Schulenberg was a primary care physician at the clinic.
Schulenberg is actually the second doctor named in the investigation surrounding Prince’s death. The AP reports that last week, a lawyer for California addiction specialist Dr. Howard Kornfeld told the press that Prince’s representatives contacted Kornfeld seeking emergency help a day before the singer was found dead.
Early reports of the investigation following soon after the music icon’s passing stated that he was spotted at his neighborhood Walgreens a day before he was found dead at his home picking up a prescription, and looking “nervous and gaunt.” The singer had reportedly been taking meds for pain stemming from hip surgery in 2010.
