Over the weekend, Beyoncé took her “Formation World Tour” to NRG Stadium in her hometown of Houston, TX, but a local law-enforcement group wasn’t pleased.
Like a Miami police group tried to do for the opening night of her tour, the Coalition of Police and Sheriffs (COPS) protested her concert. They stood a mile away from the concert venue and made a statement to local news station KHOU11. “Some of her performances we believe to be anti-police,” Tony Ragsdale said in a press statement.
Ever since the arrival of her video “Formation,” many police officers across the country have been offended that the singer can be seen standing on top of and sinking a police car in the video.
In the May 2016 issue of ELLE, Bey addressed her intentions with the message of “Formation.”
“Anyone who perceives my message as anti-police is completely mistaken,” she explained. “I have so much admiration and respect for officers and the families of the officers who sacrifice themselves to keep us safe. But let’s be clear, I am against police brutality and injustice. Those are two separate things.”
