Inglewood, California-based native Darryl Farris (better known as SiR) returns with something real smooth with this brand new cut “Tricky.”
From pressing play the tone is set instantly, as the combination of dirty-south percussion and smooth guitars draw close parallels to that of the reigning “Trapsoul” sound. SiR takes a notably conversational approach, directly addressing his lady in question, using the effects of alcohol as a metaphor for the pitfalls of a complicated relationship:
“Just enough will leave you tipsy, you’ll fall if you have too much.”
A simplistic-but-impeccable vocal display and production handled by producer RASCAL combine well to deliver a blissfully laid-back and exquisite two-and-three-quarter-minute audio experience.
“Tricky” is a welcome offering and a timely reminder of the brilliance showcased on his debut LP “Seven Sundays” released in summer 2015. Let’s hope this is the first of more brand new material from the singer-songwriter-engineer who has worked previously alongside R&B and soul greats Jill Scott, Bilal & Tyrese.
