Last week, angry TLC fans were wondering where the group’s final album was. In the spring, Tionne “T-Boz” Watkins and Rozanda “Chilli” Thomas revealed they were starting a Kickstarter page to raise money for the costs of recording, mixing, marketing, etc. They raised over $400,000, including a $5000 donation from Katy Perry.
The album was slated to drop in September, then October, then it was pushed back to 2016. Fans became restless, creating the hashtag #TLCIsGoingToJailParty and posting hilarious memes.
One fan, @NathanNAVY, tweeted T-Boz directly asking where the album was, and she took no responsibility for the missing LP. “T-Boz where is my money? Y’all owe me $5 for that Kickstarter album. @TheRealTBOZ,” he tweeted.
She replied, “@NathanNAVY Call Kickstarter and tell em to give it bk.”
Now recently, T-Boz called in to the Rickey Smiley Morning Show to address the angry fans, setting the record straight once and for all. T-Box explained it wasn’t a scam and calling out the internet bullies.
“We’ve sent emails to [everybody who donated] and then on top of that we’ve done a press release,” she said. “I refuse to address ignorance because there’s a lot of followers out there. They hear one comment, jump on the bandwagon and then fail to do their research.”
She continued, “That’s the problem I find disappointing, especially with our people. It’s mostly our people doing it, you don’t ever see other races on the Internet dogging people out the way Black people do each other. It’s embarrassing and it’s unfortunate to me.”
Chilli has yet to address the controversy, and there’s still no clear date set for the release of the group’s final album.
