While Aretha Franklin may be best known for songs like “Respect,” she does have strong roots in Gospel music. “Amazing Grace,” released in 1972, is one of the top selling Gospel albums of all time plus three of her Grammy Awards are from Gospel categories.

The late Rex Humbard, Dallas Holm and Ricky Skaggs are among others that will be honored with Franklin on August 14 in Hendersonville, Tennessee.

Aretha Franklin is a legendary singer, songwriter and performer who has made an indelible mark on the music industry. This momentous event marks yet another milestone in Franklin’s long and illustrious career.

Aretha Franklin began singing as a child at New Bethel Baptist Church in Detroit where her father was pastor. Her powerful voice soon gained attention from record labels, leading to multiple hit albums throughout the 60s and 70s. By combining traditional spiritual songs with secular soul genres like R&B, rock n’ roll, funk, blues and jazz, Franklin created groundbreaking new gospel sounds that inspired generations of musicians after her.

Now, more than 50 years later, Aretha Franklin is finally getting the recognition she deserves in the form of induction into the Gospel Music Hall of Fame–a fitting honor for such an iconic artist whose artistry continues to live on today through her vast musical catalogue.
