YouTube sensation Michael Korte is back at it again with another musical mashup. Known for his viral hits #HAM4BEY, #GAGA4RENT and#Purple4Prince, Michael returns with a mind-blowing new mashup entitled, #LEGENDS4SUPERSTAR! An ode to the “Jesus Christ Superstar” live musical which aired on Easter Sunday, the creative takes mashed the biggest hits of Sara Bareilles, John Legend & ‘Jesus Christ Superstar.’
The show averaged 9.4 million viewers, according to The Hollywood Reporter, putting it ahead of all other original telecasts for the night — including CBS’s “60 Minutes” and ABC’s “American Idol.”
Written by Andrew Lloyd Webber and Tim Rice in 1970, “Superstar” is spinning an old story for today’s young audience. Michael Korte knows how to tap into millennium viewership with enticing and ear-thrusting sounds.
“The proposed reinvention of the show triggered my desire to create this mashup,” Korte told Singersroom. “The show’s dedication to diverse casting, soulful reinterpretations of the original music and it’s overall mission to bring Broadway to the masses was all the inspiration I needed. If John Legend and Sara Bareilles can share the stage harmoniously bringing life to a musical staged decades ago when my team was inspired to be fearless in mashing music that previously had no connection. Our pride came from not only mashing these separate entities together but pushing the narrative of JCS through our mashup!”
“The singers we cast poured all of their heart into our mash. With all the confides of our current political climate, it’s an honor to create from a place of joy and still feature LGBT artists and artists of color turn these classics on their head!”
The video features vocalists Mark JP Hood, Christine Noel, Jamal Moore, Jada Banks-Mace & Porcha Lenae. And the video was directed by Baxter Stapleton with music produced by Bryson Camper.
