Jessie J unwraps a simple but vulnerable music video for her Ex-bashing single, “Not My Ex.” In the grayscale clip, the UK songstress dons wet hair and a dark sweater as she emotionally delivers the soulful song, in which she blames herself as well as her Ex for their wasted time together.
“My Ex used to tell me I’m flawless / When laying low with all the girls,” she sings. “Believed him when he said he was honest / Then blame myself when I got hurt.”
She continued: “My Ex used to tell me I’m selfish / But never did he put me first / Ignore me and he do it on purpose / Just to have the last word.”
“Not My Ex,” which follows the previous release “Think About That,” will appear on Jessie’s upcoming fourth full-length album, R.O.S.E.(Realizations, Obsessions, Sex, and Empowerment), which will capture her struggles and journey back.
“For each letter there is a word, and for each word there is a song I will share with you,” she said of the title. “I’m strong enough now to let you in, to be real and to be free.” R.O.S.E. is due in 2018.
