The internet is buzzing about Cardi B reaching the top spot on the Billboard Hot 100 chart, making her the first female to accomplish the feat since Lauryn Hill in 1988.
Female rappers from new to industry legends have been coming out the woodwork to congratulate Cardi on the success of “Bodak Yellow,” including Lil Kim, Missy Elliott, and Nicki Minaj, who owns the record for the most Hot 100 entries of all-time amongst female artists.
One of the most thoughtful praises comes from R&B singer Kehlani, who was very emotional.
“This is a win for every woman who was ever told they couldn’t or wouldn’t. this is for every little black and brown girl in every hood with all odds against them and their dreams,” she writes. “this is for @iamcardib who has defied all odds from day f*ckin one remaining humble and her true authentic self. HERSTORY IS MAAAAADE I could cry I feel like she everybody favorite cousin we love you girl we are ALL. ROOTING. FOR. YOU!!”
Cardi recently spoke about success, insisting she is never “fully satisfied.”
“I don’t even know what success means anymore because I feel like I’m not successful enough,” she told Paper Magazine. “Every single time that I set a goal and I accomplish the goal, I feel like it’s not good enough. I’m only telling you the truth. At first, I wanted to make a certain amount of money, then I made that amount of money, and that wasn’t enough. Then I always wanted to be a respected artist; now I’m getting respected but I still want more. Maybe you’re just never fully satisfied.”
Congrats to Cardi B!
