Yesterday, Jhené Aiko announced the new album, ‘Trip,’ and hours later, she released it for the world to hear.
The 22-song offering, described as an “epic, psychedelic journey beyond the boundaries of R&B,” boasts appearances from Brandy (“Ascension”), Big Sean (“Moments”), Swae Lee (“Sativa”), Kurupt (“Never Call Me”), Mali Music (“Trip”), and TWENTY88 (“OLLA”). Additional, her father Dr. Chill and daughter Namiko Love shares time with her on the project.
‘Trip,’ the short film and new album, was inspired by the lost of her brother Miyagi, who passed in 2012.
“My brother and I were very close. We were only two years apart,” she said. “I never thought of him as a separate person, but an extension of myself. He was my reflection. In his presence, I was confident and always so sure.”
She also added: “I distract myself with work, which buys me things I wish I could share with him. I distract myself with work, which causes stress I wish he were here to help me with.”
‘Trip’ follows Aiko’s 2014 release, ‘Souled Out.’
