Ceelo Green may have been on the wrong end of a phone call.
In a new video, recorded on December 17, Green is seen working in a recording studio before taking a phone call. As he nonchalantly converses with someone, the 42-year-old singer’s phone began smoking before blowing up on his face. The entire ordeal was captured by a security camera in the studio.
The quick blast sends Green flying out of his chair, arms swinging, as he falls to the ground. He lays flat on the ground, face first, and doesn’t get up for what looks like a long time. It’s unclear how long Green was knocked out on the floor.
No aftermath of the incident was captured, so it’s currently unclear if this was a prank of sorts or if Green was injured by the explosion.
It’s also unclear if Green was on an Apple or Android cellphone when the freak accident happened. We hope he’s doing well!
There has been no word from CeeLo’s camp as yet. His last Twitter post was 20 hours ago, which sees him sharing his excitement about the upcoming #BecauseOfBethlehem on TBN.
Update: Dec. 18
As we suspected (see bold above), the above video showing a phone exploding in Ceelo Green’s face was a prank, he was not injured. Green, real name Thomas DeCarlo Callaway, took to Facebook to tell fans he was not hurt.
“I just want to let everybody know that I am alive, I am well, and I’m OK,” Green said. “I’m really upset that anybody had to be emotionally disturbed by what they saw today.”
Green said the video that went viral was a snippet from a project he was working on called “Gnarly Davidson.”
“It’s supposed to, you know, set up and introduce the new character identity,” he said. “I’m still going to release the music though.”
No word on how the prank video leaked online.
