Last night (Dec. 7) was NBC’s premiere of Hairspray Live where Jennifer Hudson brought the house down (no surprise) with her performance of “I Know Where I’ve Been.” As her character D.J. Motormouth Maybelle, Hudson’s performance might just have brought the entire Hairspray production to it’s knees!
Hudson’s delivery along with the song’s lyrical context about racial inequality made for a potent performance, as it resonates with the social climate in the country right now.

Whew!
Viewers gushing about her performance on Twitter:
You know that it’s not just Motormouth Mabel singing in Hairspray, but its also Jennifer Hudson sending a message in 2016. #HairsprayLive

Was Jennifer Hudson good? I collapsed out of pure euphoria the moment she started singing and just woke back up. #HairsprayLive

Moral of the #hairspraylive story: @IAMJHUD is pure, raw, realness. Her talent = loss for words. The end.
