Legendary singer-songwriter/producer Teddy Riley received the Legend Award the 2016 Soul Train Awards (which aired last night, Nov. 27th). Riley single-handedly created a sub-genre in the 80s that combined funk, R&B and hip-hop that was coined “New Jack Swing.”
With his signature vocoder in tow, Riley performed a medley of songs he’s written and/or produced, songs like “My Prerogative,” “Rump Shaker,” Michael Jackson’s “Remember the Time,” SWV’s “Right Here,” Hi-Five’s “I Like The Way (Kissing Game),” and so many more. Riley was also joined on stage by Bobby Brown, V. Bozeman, Doug E. Fresh, Tito Jackson, and fellow members of Guy, to name a few.
