Earlier this year in February, Gallant and Jhené Aiko linked up for a collab called “Skipping Stones,” and now they’ve dropped the visual, which isn’t what you may expect.
While the song is mellow and soulful, the video is tense and insidious. The clip first opens with singer-songwriter Gallant beaten and bound in the trunk of a car. We then see who’s driving, and it’s Aiko, who stays contemplates her next move as she sings her angelic verse. She then makes her next move, which is set the car on fire with Gallant in the truck.
“Digging into all the subtext that that moment kind of carries,” Gallant told Complex. “I thought that this particular scene would just very naturally, in a very subtly complex way, kind of just illustrating exactly all of the fiery emotions that are coming through lyrically in the song from both perspectives.”
