In April, it was announced that “Empire” star Bryshere Gray and singer Luke James were cast as Michael Bivins and Johnny Gill respectively for the upcoming three-part New Edition biopic on BET called “New Edition: The Movie.”
Now, Deadline reports the film’s casting directors have added many more actors to the cast: singer Tank will play music exec Jheryl Busby, Wood Harris (Remember the Titans, The Wire) will play the group’s choreographer Brooke Payne, Michael Rapaport (Boston Public, Justified) will play Gary Evans, Faizon Love plays will songwriter/producer Maurice Starr, Duane Martin will play record exec Louil Silas, and Bre-Z (Empire) will play Peanut Bell.
Other cast members include Evan Ross who will portray Ronnie Devoe, Elijah Kelley has as Ricky Bell, Algee Smith as Ralph Tresvant, and Bobby McClain will play Bobby Brown. They also report that Chris Robinson is directing the film for BET.
“New Edition: The Movie” is set to premiere in 2017.
