According to the undisputed Queen of Soul, Aretha Franklin, a little R-E-S-P-E-C-T is undoubtedly coming to a big screen near you.
During her 74th birthday celebration at the Ritz-Carlton in New York last week, Franklin told the Associated Press that the long-anticipated biopic is a basically a done deal.
“Good news, we’re ready to sign for the movie,” Franklin said about her biopic. She’s been working on bringing the film to light with “Straight Outta Compton” producer Scott Bernstein. “We’ve agreed on all the key points. There’s very little left now [to negotiate], very little. They have given me creative control, and that’s all I wanted.”
Ever since 2011, there’s been rumors that Franklin wanted Halle Berry to play the soul singer, then it was Jennifer Hudson. No word yet on who may get the lead role, but Franklin revealed an actress has been chosen. “I’ve talked to the person that is going to play me. I’m not going to say who I chose, but I’ve talked to her and she’s ready and I’m happy with her,” she said.
I like J-Hud in the role as Franklin. Roomies, who do you think should play the Queen of Soul?
