After teasing fans all week on social media, soul star Maxwell drops his new single and lyric video for “Lake By The Ocean,” the first single from his highly anticipated new album blackSUMMERS’night.
“Lake by the Ocean” is written and produced by Musze and his longtime collaborator Hod David, is a classic-sounding Maxwell hit. Using his famous falsetto, Maxwell offers an elegant, slinky, yearning song that echoes his 2009 smash “Pretty Wings” or his early hit “Ascension (Don’t Ever Wonder).”
“Heartbreak is always at the core of most of the things I write,” he says. “The song is about a vast unfettered love deeply connected to the intimacy one is able to share with another after a time of great struggle and betrayal. It’s an expression of cleansing and escape, a washing away of the past and joining forces in love with the beauty of romance, nature and the earth.”
blackSUMMERS’night is part two of the star’s three-part musical trilogy out July 1st on Columbia, his first album in seven years. On June 18th, Maxwell will head out on a 25-date tour, including a headlining slot at the 2016 Essence Festival in early July. Summer tour dates will be announced on April 11 at www.musze.com.
