Following the release of her Wildhearts EP last month, UK singer and Ne-Yo’s protégé Sonna Rele takes the first track from the project, “Popular Lie,” and strips it down for a lyric video.
Rele is a London-based singer-songwriter and multi-instrumentalist signed to Motown Records by 3x Grammy winner, Ne-Yo. After discovering Sonna while perusing her captivating and heavily followed ‘Music Monday’ video clips on Facebook, he immediately brought her to the renowned music label. “There is a quality about Sonna’s voice that lingers in your ears after she performs a song. Her musicianship is refreshing and undeniably authentic”, said NE-YO.
Sonna’s musical influences point to a wise head on young shoulders with Stevie Wonder and the Beatles sitting alongside Nelly Furtado and Michael Jackson. With the inspiration of her parents, both professional musicians, never far from the surface, Sonna describes her sound as “stripped back acoustic-based songs mixed with the sound and pulse of a world-beat underneath it”.
