On April 3rd, 19-year-old Alessia Cara received the “Breakout Artist of the Year” award at the 45th Annual JUNO Awards, Canada’s Music Awards.
The “Here” singer accepted the award with an animated speech. “I’m just a regular girl who’s lived a normal life,” Cara said. “And ever since I released one song, I haven’t lived the same day twice,” she said in her acceptance speech the ceremony.
In an interview with Music Choice, Cara reflected on her win, calling it “surreal.” “Um again that sounds like it’s such a cliché thing. I feel like every artist says, ‘It’s so surreal!’ but it really is…and if you’re in this position, you understand how surreal it actually feels. It doesn’t feel like I even have…it…It just hasn’t hit that part of my brain that can understand or process things,” she explained.
