Earlier this month, Detroit girl group DMK served up a dose of refreshingly-retro-yet-current R&B with the video of their debut single “Love The Way You Love.”
Now members Damoli (22), Melanee (22), and Kourtney (21) drop off their cover of Boyz II Men’s a capella classic “Thank You,” proving they’re no slouches when it comes to the vocals!
The ladies have been honing their soulful harmonies and powerful vocals together for over 12 years now. As Detroit natives, their Motown roots run deep, and not just because of their affiliation with the city. Kourtney’s grandfather is Levi Stubbs of the legendary Motown group The Four Tops. Reminiscent of the 90’s vocal group En Vogue, they’ve found a musical balance of traditional and current R&B that merges perfectly with updated new jack swing rhythms.
When asked about goals for the group’s music, member Melanee simply says, “It’s time for girl groups to make a comeback in R&B music. We want to be that group.”
