For the past year or so, Kristinia DeBarge has been foraging an edgier sound apart from her poppy days by releasing “RnBass”-type songs. Now she’s released a collection of them in an EP called Thinking Out Loud.
Today, she drops the Problem-assisted tune “Problem,” a bouncy club banger with a Young Cali sound. On the song, she sings about her confidence. "They tell me I'm a problem / Find a real one like me," she sings on the hook.
Thinking Out Loud comes at the same time she debuted on reality TV on WETV’s Growing Up Hip-Hop last week, a show that follows the lives of children of music moguls and legends. The cast includes DeBarge as she pursues a music career and struggles with her father James DeBarge who’s in jail, Egypt Criss (the daughter of Sandra “Pepa” Denton from Salt-N-Pepa and rap icon Treach from Naughty By Nature), Master P’s son Romeo Miller, Rev Run’s daughter Angela Simmons, Damon “Boogie” Dash, son of media mogul Damon Dash and TJ Mizell, the son of the late Run D.M.C. DJ Jam Master Jay.
